Using information and communications technologies (ICTs) as change agents is a key step toward creating sustainable cities and communities. The limited use of ICTs in coastal areas undermines the benefits they can provide for beach management. We ought to broaden the scope of beach management systems to encompass additional approaches pertaining to ecological and environmental preservation. The use of ICT in five coastal areas of Sanya, Hainan Island, China, is examined in this chapter. In doing so, we investigate the relationship between the amount of illicit coastal fishing and the degree of ICT usage. The importance of the ICT presence and its effect on reducing illicit fishing in coastal areas are confirmed by using Sanya, South China, as a case study example. Investigate alternative sensory networks and real-time data collection techniques, develop ICT-mediated platforms like the Internet of Things (IoT) and integrated beach management systems, and think about ICT-enabling innovation beyond the use of CCTV cameras. The study's conclusions spark more discussions about how best to apply ICT to beach and coastal environmental protection measures.
