In order to convert organic molecules into valuable products, fermentation technology, which is an important industrial asset, makes use of the metabolic processes of microorganisms. Traditional fermentation techniques, on the other hand, frequently have redox imbalances, which restricts their ability to be applied on a broad scale and their economic viability. 摘要

In order to achieve a condition of equilibrium within the intracellular redox states, electro-fermentation, a novel paradigm in industrial biotechnology, combines the conventional fermentation process with electrochemistry. Electrodes are used in this process to drive the metabolism of microorganisms; changes in the functioning of the electrodes have an effect on the metabolism of microorganisms as well as the yield of the product. It is essential for environmentally responsible chemical industries to have a solid understanding of the design of electro-fermenter systems.
