Knee injuries and pain in cricket are fairly common and could be either acute injuries, seen in fielders, or chronic overload syndromes which are associated with fast bowlers. Anterior knee pain is fairly common in young cricketers and needs to be diagnosed at an early stage. There seem to be no gender differences in the injury patterns. Certain methods of fielding could precipitate acute injuries, and some of the injuries seen due to overload are common to other games as well. A prompt diagnosis allows identification of the injury or cause of pain in the early phase, and there are many conditions which require immediate specialised investigations. Early aggressive management protocols help prevent these injuries from becoming chronic and return to sport can be facilitated early. Knee degeneration is also documented in current and past cricketers, and this issue also needs to be assessed and discussed.
