Internet of Things (IoT)-Based Smart Cities and the Challenges: A Review Study Using Bibliometric Analysis

Since the smart city concept emerged, the IoT has been seen as the fundamental infrastructure for a smart city. It is an innovative platform that enables a smart network to connect to a multitude of electronic devices through the internet and various communication systems. This allows for reliable and real-time connectivity, as well as the ability to gather data from sensors, perform computations, and activate devices. Concerns about the privacy and security of data are raised by the use of intelligent home technology, and the implementation of intelligent infrastructure requires strong networking and answers for compatibility issues. Deploying IoT in industrial contexts encounters issues pertaining to scalability, standardization, and data management concurrently. This research paper presents a literature analysis conducted using the bibliometric analysis approach. The review focuses on published studies in the topic of IoT in smart cities, namely those that are available in SCOPUS database. This comprehensive literature study examines and assesses several facets of smart home, smart infrastructure, and smart industry, as well as the problems related to security and privacy, smart sensors, interoperability, and standards. Finally, the researchers discuss the current legal status of India and Europe.
