Smart Consent Mechanism Architecture for Medical Emergencies

In medical emergency scenarios, the traditional process of obtaining consent for the patient’s treatment is often cumbersome, time-consuming, and reliant on the immediate availability of authorised stakeholders. These delays can hinder critical medical interventions, putting patients at risk. This paper presents a blockchain-based framework designed to reconstitute and upgrade consent management in hospitals during emergencies. Our approach utilises smart contracts to enable authorised individuals to grant consent remotely and instantly, ensuring that medical decisions are not delayed due to logistical and procedural challenges. The system’s blockchain foundation ensures that all consent records are sacrosanct, immutable and secure, preventing unauthorised tampering and maintaining the integrity of the decision-making process. Additionally, the framework provides concerned authorities with streamlined up-to-date access to all consistent documentation, enhancing transparency and compliance with regulatory standards. By addressing the inefficiencies of traditional consent procedures, our solution empowers healthcare providers to act quickly and accordingly in critical situations.
