This chapter provides practical guidance on assessing second language reading skills using a task-based approach. Instead of traditional tests that focus on isolated grammar or vocabulary and produce simple numerical scores, task-based assessment attempts to examine how well learners can use their reading skills in authentic and communicative contexts. In light of this, the chapter explains how tasks can be used to assess learners’ reading abilities in authentic and meaning-focused situations that can better reflect and simulate real-world reading situations more accurately.

摘要

This chapter provides practical guidance on assessing second language reading skills using a task-based approach. Instead of traditional tests that focus on isolated grammar or vocabulary and produce simple numerical scores, task-based assessment attempts to examine how well learners can use their reading skills in authentic and communicative contexts. In light of this, the chapter explains how tasks can be used to assess learners’ reading abilities in authentic and meaning-focused situations that can better reflect and simulate real-world reading situations more accurately.
