Climate change, water shortage, food insecurity, and population pressure are the challenges being faced in today’s world. Drought stress poses a great constraint and is becoming a constant challenge in the way of sustainable agriculture. It changes the normal behavior of plants via altering its morphology, physiology, biochemical attributes, and nutrients uptake. Therefore, in this chapter, we highlight the impacts of water scarcity on different phases of plants’ life cycle, i.e., seed germination, plant development, photosynthesis, nutrients uptake, antioxidants, ROS balance, and yield. In addition to this, we also summarize drought tolerance induction mechanism especially in vegetable crops by application of plant growth regulators, potassium, selenium, chitosan, microbes, and by grafting and innovative irrigation scheduling, which would facilitate plant scientists and vegetable growers to lessen the damaging effects of drought. The alleviation of these effects of drought is of great importance in sustaining vegetable production.
