In 1997 UNESCO declared Caserta Royal Palace a World Heritage Site for either the magnificent palace, the naturalistic context in which it is inserted, and the infrastructures that surround. The double row of holm oaks on the Via d’Acqua is still today an immediately recognizable vegetal architecture and the object, therefore, of an in-depth study aimed at determining its biological, physiological, aesthetic, architectural, and economic. The question relating to the health of the holm oaks in the Royal Palace of Caserta is a very sensitive issue, especially for those who would like to avoid, unless necessary, the degradation of such historical and naturalistic heritage. Making use of the hyperspectral data collected with a CASI 1500 sensor, the Benecon consortium has evaluated vegetation stress maps of the double row of holm oaks at the Royal Palace of Caserta. The Followed methodology is based on the evaluation and integration of various indices in the visible-near infrared (VNIR) range.
