Health is not merely the absence of a disease. It is the physical, mental, and social well-being of an individual. It involves the body’s ability to adapt and recover continuously. There are several factors considering which an individual is classified as healthy and diseases. The body requires a balance between psychological and physiological health for proper functioning and well-being of an individual. Psychosocial factors, stress, the food that we eat, and our gut health affect the daily metabolic activities taking place in the human body. Social isolation and stress can lead to hormonal imbalances and affect immune response, which as a result disrupts the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis. This can result in insulin resistance, fat accumulation, and chronic inflammation. Excessive and frequent use of antibiotics can harm gut microbiota. The first half of this book chapter explores the effects of mental factors along with gut health on the body and highlights the importance of stress management, metabolic syndrome, antibiotic stewardship, and the second half focuses on measures like probiotic therapy, dietary interventions, focusing on improving metabolic and mental health. This will not only help in understanding the importance of health but will also lay the foundation for therapeutic innovations and future research prospects.
