The Blalock-Taussig procedure (BT shunt) is a short-circuiting procedure to increase pulmonary blood flow in patients with cyanotic congenital heart disease with pulmonary artery stenosis as a bridge to radical surgery. Currently, modified BT shunt using ePTFE grafts (Gore-Tex®) is used instead of the original method in which the subclavian artery is directly anastomosed to the pulmonary artery. The BT shunt itself is not a surgically invasive procedure.
