The chapter explores the ideology behind Just Energy Transition. Social equity calls for a just and inclusive energy transition to a low carbon economy, so that the costs and benefits of climate action are fairly distributed. A Just Energy Transition provides alternative employment opportunities, provides re-training, protects workers in carbon-intensive sectors and addresses any social or economic crisis that might arise. This promotes inclusivity and addresses the common challenges of climate change and energy poverty more holistically and sustainably. Social equity also prioritises health, well-being and the overall quality of life. Addressing energy poverty reduces health risks associated with indoor and outdoor air pollution, and enhances living conditions by reducing the time and money spent on traditional fuels.

摘要
