Government organizations face many challenges that require innovative solutions. The concept of open government around the world has received substantive attention as governments strive to increase transparency, engage citizens, and modernize governance practices. Although the benefits of generative artificial intelligence (GEN-AI) are reported in cutting-edge literature, few studies show how GEN-AI can contribute to improving transparency and end-to-end visibility in government organizations in emerging economies. This study examines how GEN-AI can amplify the quality of information in government organizations in Brazil. Data were collected from Information Disclosure Portals of Brazilian government organizations. The results suggest that GEN-AI, through ChatGPT, tends to provide an instant and accurate search for the desired information, due to its conversational model, through the generation of texts with natural language, simulating human interaction. The study also indicates that ChatGPT’s resources can help people find relevant content to meet their needs, as well as improve the experience of users/stakeholders. This research is original, fills a gap in the literature and makes significant contributions: (i) it shows the relevance of GEN-AI to improve the transparency and visibility of government organizations; (ii) sheds light on managers who intend to amplify the quality of government information through GEN-AI; (iii) paves the way for good governance practices enabled by GEN-AI; aligned with citizens’ needs; and (iv) advances arguments from the literature on information governance and GEN-AI.

摘要
