The printing technology is the result of social and cultural development and also the driving force for the progress of human civilization. The carriers of culture refer to classics with developed characters, and it’s self-evident that any country or nation can only develop printing after it has a fully functional writing system. China, as one of the oldest civilizations in the world, has a written history of over 5000 years. Before the invention of characters, people exchanged ideas through spoken language and gestures, passed stories from mouth to mouth, and relied on their memories day in and day out. Later, they began to make knotted cords to keep track of events. A set of various colored strings with knots that came in different sizes, shapes, and numbers were used for recording and “passing on” the events, serving the purpose of language.
