Aluminum Separation by Hydrometallurgical Method for Recycling Waste Pharmaceutical Blisters (WPB)-Optimization Studies by Response Surface Methodology

This study aims to explore the leaching of aluminum from waste pharmaceutical blister (WPB) in HCl solution in order to develop a plan for recycling aluminum from the waste fraction. The study explored the impact of time, HCl concentration, liquid/solid ratio, agitation speed, and temperature on leaching behavior in aluminum in hydrometallurgical recycling. There is a correlation between the increase in factors and the increase in aluminum leaching. Under ideal parameters, including a 90 min time interval, 2N HCl concentration, a liquid to solid ratio of 15:1, speed at 400 rpm, and a temperature of 40 ℃, aluminum leaching reaches 96%. Aluminum and plastic have been successfully separated. Kinetic mechanism also investigated. The leached aluminum was characterized by SEM, FTIR, EDX, TGA, which also investigated the optimum conditions various parameter. The experimental results obtained are showed best fit and compared with response surface methodology.
