The growing application of Artificial Intelligence(AI) reduces the energy demand in buildings by incorporating smart technologies through efficient controls, sensors, automation, and enhanced reliability. The prediction of energy consumption in buildings plays an instrumental role in energy management. This can assist in enhancing energy efficiency through hybrid approaches based on construction technologies coupled with artificial intelligence. Energy prediction methods based on AI are widely used due to their easy application and high level accuracy in addition to the integration of passive techniques and renewable energy sources in building design and operations. In order to create energy-efficient buildings, this paper will first explore AI’s application in improving energy efficiency through literature review based on bibliometric analysis, and further it will highlight the research areas as hotspots to be explored in conjunction with traditional building design methods. This paper also elaborates on the applications, principles, potential benefits, and limitations of these AI-based models. Future investigation has got the scope to explore the use of AI in the construction process to facilitate the development of energy-efficient building systems and construction techniques. Along with the use of predictive decision-making models and scheduling throughout the pre- and post-design stages, this will also aid buildings in becoming more energy efficient during operations.
