Cloud Integrated Mobile App Development for Road Safety and Pothole Detection Alert System Using Rasperry Pi
摘要
This project proposes an innovative road safety system that combines RFID-based electronic sign boards and pothole detection using Raspberry Pi Zero W and ESP32 camera to enhance road safety and minimize accidents. The system employs Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to enhance driver awareness and reduce accidents by providing real time, contextual information about road conditions and traffic signs. RFID tags embedded in road signs transmit data to RFID readers installed in vehicles. This information is then processed and displayed to drivers through an in-vehicle interface. Central to this system is raspberry pi Zero W and ESP32 camera-equipped system employing the YOLOv4 algorithm. The system is used to detect potholes and other road hazards, capturing real-time images, and uploading corresponding GPS coordinates to a cloud platform. This information is then used to generate alerts for mobile app users, offering them insights about road conditions ahead and enabling them to make informed driving decisions. Complementing pothole detection, the system includes RFID cards strategically positioned at specific road zones. RFID readers in vehicles trigger zone-specific notifications, enhancing driver awareness in areas such as construction sites or school zones. Additionally, the system incorporates a DHT11 sensor to monitor environmental parameters, furnishing drivers with real-time data on temperature and humidity for safer driving practices. By aiming to reduce accidents, minimize vehicle damage, and enhance overall driving experiences, this project endeavors to significantly contribute to road safety, safeguarding both vehicles and lives on the road by reducing up to 20–40% of road accidents due to potholes and inadequate information about road safety signs.
