The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor: A “Game Changer” to the Middle East
摘要
This chapter explores the potential of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) to transform the geopolitical dynamics of the Middle East. Positioned as a Western alternative to China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the IMEC reflects the broader US-China rivalry for global influence over markets, resources, and regional power. Understanding the IMEC is essential for analyzing the strategic objectives behind its promotion and assessing its potential benefits, challenges, and limitations. If implemented, the corridor could significantly influence the Middle East by fostering strategic partnerships, creating zones of techno-political influence, enhancing trade and sustainable energy practices, and boosting connectivity and economic integration. Middle Eastern states perceive both initiatives as valuable opportunities in an increasingly multipolar world, leveraging their relationships with major powers to optimize their strategic and economic interests.
