Creating a timetable for university students is a complex and multidimensional problem that requires consideration of numerous, often contradictory constraints and quality criteria. The main constraints in this problem are time constraints, resource constraints (lecturers, students, classrooms), completeness of classes, preferences for dates and lecturers, etc. In the literature, this issue is referred to as the University Course Timetabling Problem (UCTP). In practice, the data necessary to create a timetable must be obtained from many organizational units of the university. Assignments to conduct classes, the resources of lecture halls, and the organization of the academic year (days off) are determined at the faculty/university level, while the allocation of lecturers to courses occur at the institute/department level. The problem of the appropriate allocation of teachers to courses is also a non-trivial issue involving additional constraints such as competencies, working time, availability, etc. It can be solved either before or during the generation of the timetable. The paper proposes a model to support and optimize decisions related to assigning lecturers to courses. The model can be used in both proactive and reactive modes. The model was also implemented using the author’s method of reducing the modeled problem. Computational experiments were conducted using the model and real data from the university department.
