A participative action research (PAR) approach is deployed in each discipline-based study reported through Chapters Four to Eight, to refine the processes for introducing and leveraging AI tools/platforms to support learning. Through PAR, the various challenges, and solutions for utilising AI to provision authentic learning activities were identified and evaluated. Of note is the synergistic relationship between PAR and the Aotearoa NZ commitment to meet the obligations of the country’s founding document, Te Tiriti o Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi). PAR’s underlying approaches and its recognition of research participants as co-researchers and co-creators of data and its interpretation, concur well with the imperatives inherent in Aotearoa NZ research frameworks to conduct research that is sympathetic to bi-culturalism and apply important humanistic aspects of Mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge base) through processes of rangahau. Rangahau is conducted as a shared, co-participatory and collegial process, drawing on the experiences and knowledge of all who are involved. Following on from PAR, case study methodology was utilized to synthesise recommendations from a series of studies introducing AI into VET programmes for business, computing, engineering, graphic design and hospitality, which is rationalised and described.
