This chapter sociologically explores the micro dimension of Catholic health workers’ lay social spirituality in today’s growing commodification of health care. It specifically attempts to establish Catholic healthcare workers’ spirituality in the workplace that applies the perspectives of Catholic social teaching on health care, spirituality of work, the preferential option for the poor as well as sociology on commodification of health care and social dynamics of the workplace. It argues that sociology is crucial for the empirical foundation of health workers’ practice of social spirituality and Christian discernment in a commodified healthcare social environment. It recommends an interdisciplinary approach, as conceived by Pope Francis’s inductive synodal theology, to incorporate sociological research for health workers’ lay Catholic social spirituality.
