This paper introduces a comprehensive benchmark dataset of Indian city names written in the Devanagari script. The dataset consists of 250,000 city names contributed by 200 individuals of various ages and personalities. It includes word images along with information about the writers, such as their names, ages, genders, and professions/classes (for students). The dataset has diverse applications, including optical character/word recognition, writer identification, writer verification, postal automation, and handwritten word segmentation. Moreover, it can be utilized for tasks like predicting age or gender based on handwriting analysis. The introduction of this benchmark dataset aims to provide researchers with a valuable resource to evaluate and help to advance Indian handwritten document analysis techniques across different domains.
