Design and Development of Compact Broadband Microstrip Patch Antenna for X-Band Applications
摘要
This study introduces a low-profile, compact microstrip patch antenna (MPA) with a slotted rectangular ground plane and a standard circular patch for X-band applications. The proposed patch antenna offers a wide impedance bandwidth of 2.862 GHz (7.536–10.398 GHz) with a fractional bandwidth of 31.9% resonating at 8.125 and 9.854 GHz. The proposed antenna is built on a 1.588 mm-thick Rogers RT Duroid 5880 (lossy) dielectric substrate with a loss tangent of 0.009 and a relative dielectric constant of 2.2. Improved impedance matching and bandwidth are provided by the slotted ground plane. In the needed frequency range, the suggested antenna’s peak gain ranges from 1.28 to 3.52 dBi, with a maximum radiation efficiency of around 76%. The CST MWS electromagnetic modeling tool has independently validated the antenna’s performance characteristics. With its simple design, compact size, symmetric radiation pattern, and consistent gain, the suggested antenna would be a good fit for X-band applications.
