INVEST is a set of criteria to improve quality of requirements in agile software engineering. Although the collection is often mentioned, empirical research to show its effectiveness is relatively scarce. We investigate this effectiveness by investigating whether use of INVEST is intuitive or not, do junior software developers use it anyway? To this extent we looked at descriptions of requirements from an agile project management tool entered by young professionals. Following a coding and analysis process we categorized over 3,500 requirements and judged their conformance with the INVEST criteria. We found all INVEST criteria to be met with percentages over 95%, except for testable - clear acceptance criteria to enable proper testing and validation – which reached less than 75%. We conclude: Much of the criteria of INVEST are easily met by junior software engineers, the criteria come by nature.

摘要
