Framework and Planning of the Chinese Legal Classics Spreading
摘要
China has a long history of about five thousand years. Chinese classics has stood the test of time and passed down from generation to generation with good comment, due to the amazing wisdom showed inside the classics. The report of the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that it is necessary to “enhance culture as part of the soft power of our country”, “do a good job collating ancient books and records”, “strengthen international cultural exchanges”, and “enhance the influence of Chinese culture worldwide”. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, mentioned at the Cultural and Artwork Symposium on October 15, 2014: “The international community’s attention to China is increasing. They want to understand China, to know the Chinese people’s worldviews, outlook on life, values, and to learn about China’s historical heritage, customs, and ethnic characteristics”. At the same time, he expressed expectations: “Cultural and artistic workers should promote and introduce our excellent cultural and artistic achievements to the world, allowing foreign people to feel the charm in the aesthetic process, deepening their understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture”. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, leaders of the Party and the country have attached increasing importance to the cultural diplomacy. General Secretary Xi has also mentioned “cultural confidence” on many important occasions, promoting the process of carrying forward traditional Chinese culture. The report of the 19th National Congress of the CPC declared that socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, which is a new historic juncture. In addition, it proposed to improve our capacity for engaging in international communication so as to tell China’s stories well, present a true, multi-dimensional, and panoramic view of China, and enhance our country’s cultural soft power. Nowadays, Chinese culture has achieved significant success in going global. With the joint efforts of the government, scholars, and foreign Sinologists, many cultural classics have gained foreign language versions recognized by the public, contributing to the promotion of Chinese culture. The overseas promotion of Chinese legal classics is an important step for Chinese culture to go global. It embodies traditional Chinese legal thinking, legal wisdom, and legal doctrines, providing crucial guidance for China’s comprehensive advancement of the rule of law today. However, it is essential to recognize that the efforts of the external Spreading of Chinese legal classics are still not as vigorous as that of the Western legal culture. Currently, compared to the translation of other cultural classics, the promotion and study of legal classics are relatively scarce. The translation of legal classics still faces numerous challenges and there are many problems existing in this area.
