The technical specification for a vibration monitoring system will ask for X and Y measurement of vibration on all bearings. This is not desirable often and amounts to excess spending for new or renovation projects. The specification seldom asks for vibration measurement in the axial direction, which is important in providing full protection to the machine. Axial measurements are also required for aiding in diagnostics. Thus, technical specifications for vibration monitoring and analysis systems are not adequate. They are also not optimal from a cost point of view.
