Project management aims at achieving project goals within the stipulated time with available resources through various tools and techniques. Studies show that majority of the projects were not successfully completed on time and within the budget specified. The objective of this study was to create a delay prediction model for Information Technology (IT) project using machine learning techniques. Data was collected from 250 firms and as the variables identified through literature review displayed multi-collinearity, principal component analysis was done for dimensionality reduction. The resulting six dimensions were used for further model building using machine learning algorithms such as decision tree and random forest. The study showed that random forest algorithm was the most accurate. The study also showed that leadership, experience and communication among the team members were important aspects which influences project delay.
