Student Engagement and Active Learning in Health Profession Education
摘要
This chapter explores the critical role of student engagement in health profession education, emphasizing the importance of fostering lifelong learning habits. It defines student engagement as encompassing both active learning and participation in institutional processes, illustrating how these components contribute to professional development and educational quality. Active learning, a central theme, encourages students to take responsibility for their learning through interactive methods that enhance comprehension, retention, and application. This chapter also highlights the value of student involvement in institutional decision-making, curriculum evaluation, research, and community service, showcasing benefits for both students and institutions. Institutional culture and logistical challenges are identified as barriers to engagement, with recommendations for overcoming these obstacles through supportive policies, adequate resources, and training. By creating an environment conducive to active learning and institutional partnerships, educational institutions can prepare students to excel in their professional roles and meet the dynamic demands of healthcare. This chapter underscores the reciprocal commitment required from both students and institutions to make engagement a cornerstone of educational success in the health professions.
