Students’ Perspectives on the Pros and Cons of Current Instructional and Learning Methods
摘要
This chapter delves into students’ perspectives on various instructional and learning methods within medical and health education. It highlights the dynamic nature of contemporary educational environments, which require diverse approaches to meet the needs of learners effectively. Key methodologies examined include problem-based learning (PBL), integration of basic medical and clinical phases, active learning, and the use of simulation centres with standardised patients. Each method is analysed for its advantages, such as fostering critical thinking, seamless knowledge application, and safe learning environments, alongside its limitations, including resource intensity, time demands, and uneven implementation. This chapter also explores factors influencing learning experiences, such as student-teacher relationships, extracurricular activities, assessment tools, participation in research, and the impact of psychological pressures and burnout. These elements are evaluated for their contributions to holistic development, professional growth, and academic success, while addressing challenges like bias, resource constraints, and stress. Insights from students underscore the importance of balancing innovative methods with traditional techniques to enhance learning outcomes and address shortcomings. This exploration serves as a foundation for continuous improvement in instructional strategies, fostering a more adaptive and supportive educational framework tailored to the evolving demands of medical and health education.
