Joint infiltration is an essential therapeutic tool in the clinical management of musculoskeletal pain. The infiltration procedure is one of the most common in the clinical practice of rheumatology professionals, so it is essential to be properly trained in its performance. This article proposes a training programme in therapeutic infiltration of the shoulder region using high reality models that simulate anatomical and physiological aspects and are controlled by computer software. The possibility of training in this technique in a simulation model means, for the trainee doctor, being able to acquire the habits and train the correct skills in performing the technique without the stress of facing a real situation. For the teaching doctor, the possibility of training students in the technique in a safe, simulated environment would mean avoiding the possibility of causing harm to real patients during the learning process of future specialists. It will allow him/her to detect the main problems encountered by the trainees in performing the technique, and to determine when the trainees are ready to perform the technique on a real patient. High-reality models could also be a useful tool in different assessment programmes, such as the Objective Structured Clinical Assessment.
