The use of mobile applications (apps) in the field of trauma and orthopedics has experienced significant growth in recent years, reflecting the increasing integration of mobile technology in medical practice. This study focuses on the role of apps in the assessment of traumatic upper limb injuries. We conducted a systematic review of apps available until May 2024 in the Apple Store and Google Play Store and found 76 apps available to clinicians specialized in the area of orthopedics and traumatology. Of these, 10 were identified as specifically useful in the emergency setting, since they offered various functionalities such as visualization of 3D anatomical models, diagnostic tools and treatment guidelines. However, concerns were raised about the quality of content, the privacy of patient data and the liability of developers, especially in emergency situations where accuracy and speed of decision making are paramount. This study underlines the need for effective regulation and validation to ensure the accuracy and reliability of these applications. Ultimately, orthopedic surgeons must recognize the potential of these digital tools and make an informed and prudent use to improve medical practice.
