Comparison of Pile Bearing Capacity Based on Meyerhof Method and Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA) Testing on Non-cohesive Soils

The foundation is a building element that sits at the bottom of a structure and transmits the load of the upper structure to the grade layer underneath it. When designing, the foundation must be able to satisfy the intended bearing capacity as a support for solid construction. The results of this study compare the bearing capacity of the Meyerhof method to the PDA test. The value of the pile’s bearing capacity based on the N-SPT value using the Meyerhof method obtained Ultimit (Qu) = 110.09 tons, tip resistance (Qp) = 48.24 tons, and blanket resistance (Qs) = 61.85 tons. The typical bearing capacity of the PDA test results of 112.5 tons is 2.19% greater than the results of the Meyerhof method analysis (110.09 tons) and the average pile bearing capacity based on CAPWAP analysis obtained (Qu) = 112.59 tons, (Qp) = 48.75 tons and (Qs) = 63.84 tons. With a small percentage difference (2.19%) to the empirical approach of Meyerhof method analysis, the PDA test can be said to be reliable enough to confirm the amount of bearing capacity of pile foundations that have been embedded in the field.
