Microplastics are plastic garbage with a diameter of less than 5 mm. This research aims to find out the characteristics, shape and abundance of microplastics present in the IPAL units Rusun Gunung Anyar and Rusun Penjaringan Sari 3, Surabaya City, as well as to know the influence of IPAL on each Rusun on the total abundance. Water samples were taken from each IPAL unit of Mount Anyar Rusun and Sari 3 Penjaringan Rusun with the help of stainless embossing of 10–40 L. Water samplings were collected using grab sampling method and filtering was done with iron filters with filtering sizes of mesh 10, mesh 30, mesh 120 and mesh 400. MP extraction from the water sample was done with Wet Peroxide Oxidation treatment with the addition of Fe2(SO4) solution and 30% hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) with a 50:50 ratio. MP particle identification can be observed and visually identified under a microscope based on shape, size, and color. A total of 365 particles were found in the Ruşun Gunung Anyar IPAL unit and 523 particles in the Rasun Penjaringan Sari 3 IPAL. With the existence of this research can prove that in IPAL unit Rusun there is microplastic contamination and further this research could be the reference of other researchers related to data abundance of microplastics and can be a reference to educate citizens related to the impact and danger of microplastics.
