Flexible Pavement Damage Analysis and Repair Alternatives on the Gresik – Lamongan Main Road Indonesia Using PCI, SDI and Bina Marga Methods

Gresik-Lamongan highways KM 32–34 and KM 38–40 are national roads connecting the economies of East Java and Central Java provinces. It becomes the main road for both medium and heavy commercial vehicles. Consequently, every year it suffers damage that causes disruption of road function and minor or severe accidents. This study aims to determine the condition of flexible road pavement layers according to the level of damage and find solutions for repairing the road damage. It employed the Pavement Condition Index (PCI), Bina Marga, and Surface Distress Index (SDI). The implementation of the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) method on KM 32–34 produced a PCI value of 87.25 on a scale of 85–100, indicating a good road condition, while on KM 38–40, the PCI value reached 76.20 on a scale of 70–85, indicating a quite good (satisfactory) road condition. Therefore, routine maintenance should be managed for KM 32–34 and KM 38–40. The Bina Marga method on KM 32–34 obtained a priority order of 9.70, meaning that the priority order was category A with a value >7 (Routine Maintenance Management), whereas KM 38–40 obtained a priority order of 9.55, meaning that the priority order was category A with a value >7. Thus, routine maintenance should be carried out on KM 32–34 and KM 38–40. The Surface Distress Index (SDI) method on KM 32–34 obtained an SDI value of 9.25 on a scale of 0–50, denoting good road condition, whereas KM 38–40 yielded an SDI value of 13 on a scale of 0–50, denoting good road condition. Then, routine maintenance should also be carried out as happening also in the PCI and Bina Marga methods. They did not mention the repair solution. The necessary management refers to the Practical Guide to Road Routine Maintenance (1992).
