Necrotizing Skin and Soft Tissue Infections in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

A 62-year-old diabetic man presented with redness, severe pain, and swelling involving his right leg for the last 3 days and a fever of 102.7 °F since this morning. The patient also described rapid worsening of redness and swelling in the last 24 h. Examination revealed loss of sensation of overlying skin, an area of erythema, and tender induration involving the medial aspect of the calf. There were no skin ulcerations or blisters. Vitals showed tachycardia with a pulse rate of 112/min and 106/70 mmHg blood pressure.
