Drawing on findings from the SHLC Household Survey conducted across 21 neighbourhoods in Delhi and Madurai, the study investigates the extent and nature of inequalities in housing, basic amenities, and social infrastructure such as education and healthcare, both within and among neighbourhoods. The comparative analysis reveals that Madurai exhibits higher levels of inequality than Delhi, particularly in housing, amenities, and services like transport, healthcare, and education. This underscores the need for smaller regional cities to enhance infrastructure and service coverage. The study also highlights significant disparities in networked services between the core and periphery areas in both cities, emphasising the role of location in shaping inequality. Additionally, intra-neighbourhood inequalities were observed, especially between different income groups, with unequal access to services, facilities, and infrastructure.

摘要
