This paper will introduce a methodology about powertrains and controls to improve hybrid electric vehicle (HEVs). For different types of HEVs, including series, parallel, series–parallel and multi-mode, there are different strategies. Moreover, algorithms are developed to advance the management of power output by Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and electric motor (EM). Simulations are used to test the strategies and obtain the data required, which find out most appropriate strategy for each type of HEV. The significance is that the algorithms written in the control unit of HEVs are able to automatically detect the operation of multiple single parts of HEVs and manage them to improve the fuel economy.

摘要
