A 19-month-old boy with short-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency underwent atrial septal defect repair surgery under general anesthesia. The anesthetic management of such patients should focus on preoperative fasting and perioperative blood glucose control. The intravenous anesthetic propofol contains high lipids, which cannot be fully metabolized in these patients. Therefore, the use of propofol is contraindicated in this patient population. Short-acting non-depolarizing muscle relaxants are the preferred choice. In addition, it is necessary to conduct symptomatic treatment once complications occur.
