A 10-year-old girl was admitted to the hospital due to fulminant myocarditis. Two days after admission, her condition deteriorated, with recurrent ventricular fibrillation and cardiac arrest. Emergent extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) was initiated for supportive treatment. There was no spontaneous return of pulse beat during ECMO support, and a heart transplant was planned. On the seventh day of ECMO support, the patient received a matched donor heart and underwent emergency heart transplant surgery. The operation succeeded, and the patient was kept intubated to the cardiothoracic surgery intensive care unit.
