Efficiency, accuracy, affordability, and automation are essential in beverage packaging industry. However, the present automation systems are neither affordable nor feasible for Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSME). This paper presents the working and implementation of a cost effective completely automated bottle filling, capping, sealing, and sorting solution for small scale beverage industries using modern industrial automation technologies. The system uses a PC with LabVIEW as an MTU and a Delta PLC as a field controller. It is a two-conveyor system where bottle filling, capping, and sorting based on sensor feedback takes place. The communication protocol used to interface LabVIEW with the PLC is Modbus Serial. Integrating LabVIEW in such automation system provides interoperability, remote operation, and vendor neutral development. This developed system can be easily modified to suit the requirements of various industrial products. The system can be further improved by using a modular PLC with extensive input/output modules and long-range communication protocols like Wi-Fi and Ethernet.
