The process of writing a research paper or thesis involves the recurrent interaction of Thinking, Writing and Revising. Every research paper is domain-dependent, and researchers must regulate their thinking related to the domain/area/field in which they want to proceed with their research. Regulated thinking promotes the ability to connect ideas relevant to the domain-specific concepts, evades ambiguous thought, assists in selecting appropriate content and provides diction related to the discipline. This paper highlights the researchers’ need to grasp the reciprocal relation between research thinking and its reflection on writing. The paper also discusses various thinking skills and strategies, the researcher to be aware of in the process of research writing. The paper further focuses on the interrelated elements of thinking involved in research. The research process is not simply collecting data, evidence or facts, and patching together with preexisting information into a paper. Instead, the research process is about investigation which includes probing questions and developing answers through focused critical thinking and thoughtful reflection. This paper will be an insightful resource for novice researchers who are facing difficulty in organising their thoughts and transforming the thoughts into paper.
