This chapter analyzes alternative forms of online political participation. In various forms of online political participation, some forms are not expressed through rational discourse but rather through emotional or irrational behaviors. This chapter refers to such forms as “alternative online political participation,” which includes phenomena such as crowdsourced investigation, online spoofs, dark jokes, and Internet memes. This alternative online political participation often carries an entertaining and festive nature on the Internet, existing as a subcultural phenomenon. It influences people’s psychology and the development of the political and social landscape in a form of political resistance, also known as “resistance-style political participation.” Although these alternative forms of online political participation implicitly express their views, they generally lack direct political orientation or specific political demands. Therefore, they can be seen as a political attitude or intent to participate, belonging to a broader concept of political participation.
