The ancient city of Dezful, with a history of nearly 5000 years, is located in Khuzestan province in the Middle East. This region has a hot and semi-humid climate, and its summers are hot and humid and its winters are cool and rainy. So much so that today, people in this area cannot spend the summer without the help of air conditioning devices. The air temperature, with an average of 49 degrees Celsius in summer, turns all the green fields of this area into yellow fields. But in the past, people in this area were able to create suitable conditions for living in the hot summer months by using natural and creative solutions. This city is located on the banks of the Dez River. Creating corridors and underground alleys called Qomesh from the old houses to the banks of the Dez River, which brought the cool air of the river to the residential houses through underground channels, and also a way to reach the river from the depths of the earth without being exposed to direct sunlight. Also, the use of hand-made caves called Mahali Kat in the coastal walls of the Dez River was a place for families to take refuge by the river and stay long in the hot summer. Shavadun was also one of the hand-made underground spaces that were ventilated by a small fan. All the above shows that the people of Dezful City in the past, by using passive climatic solutions, provided the flexibility of Dezful city for living in the exhausting summer conditions. Solutions that continue their lives as a recreational tourist attraction and still the people of Dezful use them.
