Research on Lightweight Design Methods of Cavity Structure

In order to realize the lightweight of vehicle body structure, this paper proposes a design method based on regional structure lightweight optimization. Specifically, the D-pillar cavity structure of a vehicle is focused as the structure for optimization, and a parameterized model containing cross section dimensions is established. The work includes dimension optimization, structural topology optimization, connecting location and material thickness optimization, and it must meet all body performance requirements. Finally, the optimization results achieved 11% weight reduction for the D-pillar cavity structure. The torsional stiffness remains unchanged, and the modal, durability and safety performance meet the vehicle program design requirements.
