The Brahmi script, one of the oldest scripts in India, is considered ancestral to many Indian scripts in current usage. It played a pivotal role in documenting religious texts and administrative documents in ancient India. A thorough examination of the Brahmi script and its evolution into contemporary Indian scripts is essential for design students to grasp the forms, essence, and esthetic values of scripts prevalent in India today. The script was not known to any Indian due to the major time span until nineteenth century. Many experts tried to decode the characters. The Greek coins which contained name of the king in Greek and Brahmi script helped to decode the characters. It is difficult to present this script to the current generation. To increase awareness of the letter characters, workshop sessions were suggested. The required learning materials were developed in order to assist and enable the clear and effective understanding. The letter character visual chart was developed. To make the chart easier to comprehend and use, it also contained the Brahmi character in addition to Devanagari and English letter characters. A unique practice sheets were made so that the letter characters can be practiced. Since the Devanagari script is widely used and most pupils are familiar with it. Devanagari script is derived from the Brahmi script. To make the letter character knowledge evident, the progression of the Brahmi character to the Devanagari character was projected and shown. This specific presentation gave the assignment context, which helped the students enjoy and concentrate on studying the script. Students became proficient in writing simple Brahmi sentences during the class. To preserve writing tradition, particularly the ancient Indian script, which Brahmi accomplished through this workshop. The workshop’s impact and result is that the Brahmi letter characters’ streamlined form can be used for a variety of design outputs, including installations, wall graphics, t-shirts, and much more. The quantifiable research material that has been developed based on the workshop experience can be employed to create educational resources and instructional tools related to cryptography.
