AutoSX: Designing a Mobile Application for Enhancing Automobile Service Experience

Providing timely updates on the servicing of four-wheelers to customers in India has become increasingly challenging for service centers. With the growing demand for automotive services and the complexity of modern vehicles, service centers face various obstacles in delivering prompt and accurate updates to customers which leads to bad customer experience. One of the primary challenges is the sheer volume of vehicles serviced at these centers, leading to delays in processing and communicating updates. Additionally, the lack of standardized processes and communication channels across service centers further complicates the task of providing consistent and reliable updates to customers. Furthermore, a few mobile applications are reported in the literature and available in the market for servicing cars and bikes. However, those applications do not provide solutions for transparency in service process, delay in service, and effective communication with customers. Therefore, the objective of this study is to design a mobile application for easy and hustle-free car servicing and build trust as an experience. This study begins by identifying the challenges faced by customers of different car brands, when attempting to give their vehicles for servicing. In this paper, we conducted a field survey and structured interviews with customers to understand their pain points and frustrations associated with delay in servicing, not getting service status, and transparency in servicing of car parts at the service station. Based on field research we identify the service provider and customer interventions in the service system and create an information architecture for the mobile application. A high-fidelity prototype of a mobile application has been developed. The mobile application provides an experience of trust through the features of the mobile application such as timely service updates (videos and photos of servicing process), genuine car part exchange process, and billing process.
