The collaboration between data scientists and UX researchers is a growing trend in modern product development, as both disciplines aim to create user-centric products and services. This paper aims to highlight the benefits and challenges of this collaboration and to suggest a framework for effective collaboration between the two disciplines. The literature review explores the potential for synergy between data scientists and UX researchers and the challenges that arise when they work together. After understanding the historical evolution of Data Science and its Impact on UX Research from the 1960s to the 2020s, we thoroughly investigate case studies of 2 companies and 2 sectors that demonstrate the successful collaboration between data scientists and UX researchers, highlighting the opportunities and challenges faced by them. Following this, 11 Data Science experts and 24 UX Research experts were interviewed to arrive at pointers for better mutual collaboration. Following this, collaborative framework is proposed, outlining the roles and responsibilities of data scientists, UX researchers, and their project leads. The paper concludes by discussing the implications of this research for the field of User Experience Research and Data Science and provides recommendations for data scientists and UX researchers who wish to collaborate more effectively.
