The successful adoption and implementation of automation-enabling technologies for the digitalisation of manufacturing has been an influential debate in the industrial and academic communities. Theoretical establishment and practical implementation of Industry 4.0-enabling technology solutions are discussed extensively. Derived from Society 5.0, the restoration of human subjectivity and intellect to the industrial environment has been suggested in the Industry 5.0 concept. These consecutive revolutions in the past decade have provided new characteristics like sustainability, resilience, collaboration and optimisation that direct the industrial growth and development today. And yet, ambiguity in existing literature suggests a lack of distinct and overlapping boundaries within these concepts. The authors propose a bibliometric analysis of relevant literature by narrowing down to the significance of human components within advanced manufacturing systems and acknowledging the historical impact of industrialisation on human-led societies. Characterised by the abundance of manufacturing facilities and labour-intensive industrial sectors, this paper focuses on insights from emerging economies to address research gaps associated with adopting advanced technologies. Developing countries face the external pressures of surviving global competition, dynamic market demands, and differences in the psychosocial profiles of semi-skilled personnel employed in their industrial sectors.
