“Kllash” is an old traditional Kurdish folk shoe that often accompanies Kurdish men’s clothes. It became a fashion item with its own design. The design of Kllash is influenced by nature and culture in Kurdistan, a hilly area where the villages are unique in terms of architecture, lifestyle, and agricultural methodology. Villages are integrated with nature by incorporating steep-slope agriculture. Unique shoes must be made and developed for climbing mountains. Here in Kurdistan, the Hawrami people created unique shoes that were designed for the mountain region. This traditional shoe is made of white and colored cotton fabrics, white cotton yarns, and leather. It takes several days to produce this pair of shoes, but the strange thing about them is that they are precisely the same and have straight ends; there is no difference in the right or left foot. These shoes are very comfortable, lightweight, and healthy for the feet. The bottom of the shoes is made of 100% cotton fabric. Almost all the materials used in making Kllash are natural. The top is hand-knitted with cotton thread. Men craft the sole in their workshops. Women make the shoe vamp, which sews the parts with large needles. After everything is ready, the parts are assembled to create the final product. If necessary, Kurdish Kllash makers coat the welt and framing with glue to prevent the influence of water. Recommended wear during the spring–summer season because rain and water damage its sole.
