Bio-inspired design offers a wide range of applications when it comes to drawing inspiration beyond the biological characteristics found in nature. Our ecology is continually adapting to meet the changing environmental and climatic conditions. Humans are inherently linked to nature, as is the need for design innovation. Our environment has limitless opportunities to teach us about adaptation, methodical growth, adjusting, morphing, and metamorphosis without disrupting the ecosystem’s equilibrium. Incorporating bio-inspired design (BID) courses is becoming extremely important due to its rising demand. Researchers are constantly exploring new tools to enhance student capabilities and generate ideas. As a result, it becomes vital to establish opportunities for a directed perception to generate new thoughts amongst the design students. The study examines two key techniques in the form of bio-cards, which were implemented as a methodological process at the initiation of the module in a design classroom. The following study goes on to address the significance of bio-cards for not only demonstrating research but also mapping rapid thoughts in a shorter period. The focus begins with a knowledge of two major features of nature-inspired creativity. One of the approaches is closely associated with understanding natural processes, behaviour, and systems as a beginning point. On the other hand, alternative approaches focus on a problem description and then hunt for natural answers. The study addresses the relevance of providing students with a purposeful strategy to investigate each of these aspects. This methodological approach, which was presented to a group of design students, is examined and discussed as part of this study.
