Gamified Ideation Board (GIB) for Creative Problem-Solving
摘要
Creative problem-solving has gained widespread acceptance to foster innovation, where the ideation stage is considered one of the vital steps in the overall process. As a result, the current study focuses on ideation techniques in order to propose an effective ideation tool. To understand the challenges of current ideation techniques, previous studies were reviewed and interviews were conducted. It is inferred that ideation techniques such as brainstorming, SCAMPER, and TRIZ have limitations in the form of cognitive biases and mental fixations. To overcome the mentioned challenges, this paper proposes an integrated framework for gamified ideation (iFGI), which has been applied in the development of a Gamified Ideation Board (GIB). In the paper, the effectiveness of GIB has been discussed in terms of enhancing motivation, engagement, and the generation of diverse and novel ideas during the problem-solving process. GIB includes an ideation wheel and trigger cards which help overcome mental fixations. A comprehensive usability test involving participants from design and non-design domains is conducted to assess the efficacy of the GIB. The test results demonstrate a significant increase in both the quantity and quality of ideas generated, resulting in increased satisfaction and engagement among participants. It emphasises the potential applications of the GIB in creative problem-solving.
